My most asked Mould Testing questions
Before you book an assessment you likely want to know a few things about mould. You’ve propably had lots of conflicting ‘advice’ - like, Use bleach, then DON’T use bleach… who is correct? Who should you listen to? To clear some of the fuzziness, I’ve pulled together the most common questions I get from clients before they book their assessments. As always, I am available via phone to help answer any of your questions - click through to my contact page and get in touch.
how should I clean mould?
The best way to 'clean' mould is to REMOVE the mould. Safely remove porous materials with mould, and thoroughly clean non-porous materials with a HEPA vacuum and/or microfibre cloth. Use a professional IICRC certified remediator to do challenging jobs, especially if you are unsure. Using bleach or just spraying it with the latest ‘mould busting solutions’ is NOT the answer.
I'm in a rental - who is responsible for mould?
The landlord should abide by the standards in your area. If concerned, you can get a mould assessment done, which may legally force your landlord to either take action, or to let you break the lease. Seek advice from your local governing body.
How much does it cost to get an assessment done?
Cost depends on the size of your home and the number of samples taken. It starts at $400 for a small unit with no samples and a basic report, to $3,000 for a large house with full sampling, and a comprehensive report. Get in touch to get an accurate quote for your property.
Do you follow industry standards and protocols?
Yes, I am ASBB Certified (Australian Society of Building Biologits), IICRC-WRT certified, and trained by the Australasian college of Environmental Studies.
How long does a mould inspection take?
A thorough mould assessment will likely take between 2-5 hours, depending on the size of the building and the extent of any issues.
Do you offer a comprehensive report with recommendations?
Yes, my comprehensive mould reports could be used for insurance claims, lease breaks and other third party requirements as needed. A basic report will include just the recommendations and lab results, with steps of how to proceed.
How do you determine if mould is present?
I use air and surface sampling techniques which determine the presence and the levels of fungal particulate and mould spores in the area. These are sent to certified laboratories for analysis.
Can you provide remediation recommendations?
I can help guide mould remediation, and also refer you to the right certified remediation companies in your area.
How long does it take to receive the inspection report?
It may take from 2-10 days to get the report to you, depending on the length
what happens after the assessment? Do you help?
I provide recommendations on the next steps and can help guide you through these if required. We can have a follow-up call to go through the assessment results and recommendations.
What is the process for fixing the mould problem?
The first step is to remove the source of moisture, followed by removing the mould. A certified mould remediator will be able to help with this process.
how much does remediation cost
Mould remediation cost varies by job. A rough estimate is anywhere between $2,500 to $20,000, for minor damage right through to flood damage and more serious issues.
